Grade four lion did a wonderful job on their circle painting yesterday. What's a circle painting?! It's when you use paint to only paint circles. Each student got a cup of paint and a paintbrush and was encouraged to use each others circles as inspiration and add their circles to it. A big part of this lesson is to respect each others work, as they were not allowed to erase or paint over anyone else's circles. The final product was amazing! I am in love with all these colours and all these circles!!!
Now there's a new way to stay in touch with everything that's going on in the SUIS art room-Instagram! If you don't know Instagram, please check it out. It's yet another social networking site, but it allows you to share photos (one at a time) to your friends or whoever is following you. There is now an Instagram for art at SUIS Pudong and it's @artwithmstory. I hope all you students and parents who have Instagram follow to see the new and exciting projects we are doing everyday! You might even see your photo in Instagram-don't forget to like!!! @artwithmstory Twice a semester, we tally up the points that each class earned and the overall winner gets a prise! Students can get points in loads of ways: answering a question using art words, helping a friend or the teacher without being asked, volunteering for a job, doing class work very well, and even working quietly. The class who won this time was.... This week, grade five got a surprise zentanglr lesson! They had loads of fun using lines and patterns to make their zentangles, and they were so creative! We didn't make our zentangles the traditional way, we used a special kind of paper where you scratched of the black top layer to reveal colourful bits below. Will post photos tomorrow of their creations. For those of you who want to make these at home, youcan buy the paper in loads of shops on Fuzhou lu. Here is a photo of it jut in case you don't know what it's called! Finally!!!! The Dia de Los muertos skulls are completed and students are taking them home. They really look amazing and the children did such a great job on them. Here are a couple photos of the final pieces. I really hope you enjoy them! Grade three has been working on an artist from Austria called Friedenreich Hundertwasser. He loved wavy lines and had a strong connection to nature. First we painted papers using warm and cool colours. Then we chose a background colour and cut one of the papers to resemble wavy lines and spaces them out on the paper. We used markers to add patterns and textures to our papers as well. Then we used the other paper we made to cut out circle flower-like shapes to collage on top of the background. We used a lot of paper but it was so much fun-and the students really know who Hundertwasser is and what kind of art he does! Last week was Halloween and in some Spanish cultures, that means Dia de Los Muertos! Dia de Los Muertos, or, The Day of the Dead, is a happy holiday which celebrates the passing of friends and family with yellow flowers, sugar skulls and remembering the dead with their favourite food and drink.
Grade 6 GH is a little behind the other classes because they were really into printmaking! No worries though, they are coming up with really great ideas whilst managing to make me hungry by constantly talking about sweets! Grade 3 is loving making these candy factory creations. They are doing such a great job-I can not wait for the end of the week when they are finished! |
