Both grades four and five learnt about one point persepctive. They practised drawing it out and then did it on their own with big watercolour paper. Then, we used permanent markers to trace our lines and finally watercolour paints to paint it all! Students made trees on one side and then buildings on the other, with the middle either being a river or a road. They did SUCH a great job!!!

Both grades four learnt about the Day of the Dead. We made small "sugar skulls" out of salt dough (the sugar wouldn't stay together!) and we got to paint them in whatever colours we wanted. The children loved working with the salt dough and creating a skull.
Grade four is learning about micro-organisms in their science class. I thought it would be cool to make our own micro-organism and design what it would look like under a microscope! We looked at some photos of micro-organisms taken from microscopes and were amazed at all the different colours we saw! Students then had to sketch out their micro-organism. When they decided on a share and colour scheme, students could then draw it and colour with oil pastel, and finally use the watercolour paints to add a background. They had such a good time coming up with ideas as to what their micro-organism could do!
Grade two has been working extremely hard both before and after break on their cats inspired by Laurel Burch. We looked at numerous elements of design including line, colour, shape and size. This week they drew out their cats and traced with permanent marker. Next week we will start filling in tour cats with watercolour!!!
This was the last week for mummie! Students finished painting their mummies and added their hieroglyph stories with markers on top of the paint. They really worked hard to finish them so they could be displayed this week.
Grade 3 is justr starting on their mummies because of holidays last week! They're super excited to cut out the mummy shape and add the designs. Some groups even got to start painting today. Check out their mummies on the sixth floor when they're finished!!!!
Grade two EL started their springtime poppy flowers today! We talked about the different colours and reasons for poppy flowers; especially for remembrance day, which is Nov 11 for the US, UK and Canada, but is April 25 for New Zealand and Australia. We also talked a little about perspective.
Next week, students will add stems, clouds and leaves to their field of poppy flowers. How beautiful!!! Grade three JC is finishing up their mummies this week. They've added details to their mummies including a head dress, eagle and collar. They've also added their stories using the hieroglyphs they made up themselves!
When they are finished, come see them on the sixth floor and try to figure out their stories! Sixth grade has been learning about monsters, gargoyles and gothic atchitecture for some time now, and it is just finishing this week!
They constructed monsters out of everyday objects, such as toilet rolls, paper, tape and egg cartons. Then, they put abour 3-4 layers of paper mache around the whole thing. When they was dry, they painted their monsters. Here are a couple photos of the finished monsters. Some are quite cute, and some are scary! Prinary Reception and first grade are almost finished their Jasper Johns numbers paintings and drawings! They used pencil to choose four numbers, then they drew the numbers on their paper. They added designs to make them more interesting. They learnt about cool colours and warm colours, and used them when tracing their numbers and designs in oil pastel. When they were finished, they painted each number in a different warm or cool colour. At the end of this week, we will frame them and start a new project!!!
