Last week was Halloween and in some Spanish cultures, that means Dia de Los Muertos! Dia de Los Muertos, or, The Day of the Dead, is a happy holiday which celebrates the passing of friends and family with yellow flowers, sugar skulls and remembering the dead with their favourite food and drink.
In grade four, we used salt sough to create a kind of 'sugar skull' and then painted it with tempera paint. The results were amazing- will definitely post photos in a minute!
Lots of students were asking for the recipe to this 'salt dough' so here it is! It's really easy to make, but since you need to heat it on the stove, please ask your mum or dad to help you. When you add the cornstarch it gets really difficult to stir, so you will need a lot of help!
Bring in something you made with your salt dough to get extra class points!!
I am the art teacher at Shanghai United International School PuDong Campus. I teach art to Grade Three Panda all the way to Grade Eight. I am also the Homeroom teacher for Grade8TB. Lucky them! Some students think I am famous, because everyone knows me at our school. :]
