Grade six have started their final projects last week! Since we're doing a project for their final exam, we started early. Students learnt about Illuminated Manuscripts from 400-600 AD and compared them to modern day books. We looked at the content and context of how the books are and were used. Then, we went over the criteria for the assignment. This book must be made solely by them and the content must be about them as well. Students are really excited about this project and I can see they have already taken care and put lots of thought into their books. Even down to construction of the book, they have their say!
If you had to make a book about yourself, what would you put in it? What would you want people to remember or know about you? This was the last week for mummie! Students finished painting their mummies and added their hieroglyph stories with markers on top of the paint. They really worked hard to finish them so they could be displayed this week.
Last Tuesday's classes were mostly taken by Sports Day! It was such a sunny day and kids had a wonderful time trying their hand at all kinds of sport.
Grade 3 JC finished up their mummies and are now working on name plates. We talked about lines, patterns, textures and black letters. They had a chance to practice making block letters and then use a permanent marker to trace their letters and add designs.
Last Friday in Art class, students used the same techniques from the previous week to learn about a new artist, Wassily Kandinsky!
Students in primary reception made their own pieces while students in grade one wanted to work together to make one large masterpiece! The results looked amazing and students loved using all the colours to make their circles. Look for their artwork in the halls this week!!! Grade 3 is justr starting on their mummies because of holidays last week! They're super excited to cut out the mummy shape and add the designs. Some groups even got to start painting today. Check out their mummies on the sixth floor when they're finished!!!!
Grade two EL started their springtime poppy flowers today! We talked about the different colours and reasons for poppy flowers; especially for remembrance day, which is Nov 11 for the US, UK and Canada, but is April 25 for New Zealand and Australia. We also talked a little about perspective.
Next week, students will add stems, clouds and leaves to their field of poppy flowers. How beautiful!!! Grade three JC is finishing up their mummies this week. They've added details to their mummies including a head dress, eagle and collar. They've also added their stories using the hieroglyphs they made up themselves!
When they are finished, come see them on the sixth floor and try to figure out their stories! Sixth grade has been learning about monsters, gargoyles and gothic atchitecture for some time now, and it is just finishing this week!
They constructed monsters out of everyday objects, such as toilet rolls, paper, tape and egg cartons. Then, they put abour 3-4 layers of paper mache around the whole thing. When they was dry, they painted their monsters. Here are a couple photos of the finished monsters. Some are quite cute, and some are scary! |
