Grade two, Mrs.Chen's class, is learning about the colour wheel. We used coloured bottles of water to discover primary and secondary colours. Students really liked shaking the bottles of water to reveal what colours were in the bottles. Then, on the back of our sketchbooks, we painted the colour wheel so we wouldn't forget! Some students finished early ad insisted on making another "dot" painting. The first weeks of school we talked about a book called 'The Dot'. In it, a very frustrated girl didn't think she was a great artist, so her art teacher told her just to make a dot. Inspired by this dot, the little girl decided she could make much better dots than this, and made dots in all sorts of ways! The students loved making their own dots and whenever they are finished with their work, they insist on making more dot paintings. Fine by me!!!

Grades six and seven are almost finished with their printmaking project! Next, they have to add some small finishing touches to their prints and they're all finished!
Grade four is learning about micro-organisms in their science class. I thought it would be cool to make our own micro-organism and design what it would look like under a microscope! We looked at some photos of micro-organisms taken from microscopes and were amazed at all the different colours we saw! Students then had to sketch out their micro-organism. When they decided on a share and colour scheme, students could then draw it and colour with oil pastel, and finally use the watercolour paints to add a background. They had such a good time coming up with ideas as to what their micro-organism could do!
Grade two finished their name monsters and Mrs.Chen did a lovely assignment about describing their monsters with them the following day. She then laminated them and are now hanging around her classroom. The children really want to take them home and I don't blame them-they turned out amazing!!
